Welcome to the Vanderbilt Object Perception Lab's Current Studies Page. We are looking for people who are interested in participating in computer based psychology studies. These studies examine how people develop expert skills at identifying different classes of objects. Below you will find a list of all currently available web based experiments. To see a brief demonstration of a particular experiment click on the corresponding demo link. To register for that experiment select the associated registration link. Once you have submitted a request for registration your name will be added to a registration list. When we are ready to test the next group of participants we will select the first 10 names from the registration list. Should your name be chosen we will notify you by email and send you instructions on how to begin the experiment.

Greeble Invaders

This is a multi-part experiment designed to study how visual expertise develops. The first phase of the study is an invader-type game in which participants shoot specified targets appearing on the computer screen using weapon and navigation keys on the keyboard. This phase continues until a pre-specified number of invader waves are successfully completed. This phase is expected to take between one and three hours, depending on skill level, and may be completed in separate sessions over several days, at the participant's convenience. In the second phase of the experiment, participants learn to associate labels to new examples of invaders. This phase is expected to take 30 minutes. All participant names will be entered into a draw to win $100, with a minimum chance of winning equal to 1/10, providing all phases of the experiment are completed. This experiment is open to individuals 18 years of age or older, who have normal or corrected-to-normal vision. Each subject may only participate once.
